Everything you need to know about Blean Village Hall.

Blean Village Hall

Our newly refurbished and extended village hall is in an attractive rural setting on the outskirts of Canterbury.

Ideally situated on School Lane at the heart of the village, the hall boasts three flexible spaces, all with extensive modern facilities. There is ample parking, too. Click FACILITIES above for a guided tour.

Blean Village Hall is situated adjacent to Blean Parish Council's Memorial Ground and Nature Reserve both of which are widely used for public and community based activities. Hiring the hall does not grant exclusive access to these places. If hirers are intending to make use of these places, we would ask that respect is shown to others using the field.

Inflatable's, including bouncy castles are not permitted to be used by hires on hall footprint or Blean Parish Council land regardless of any private insurance cover included in their hire.  Sadly we're unable to take bookings for 18th birthday parties due to past difficulties. Thank you.

The venue is suitable for a wide range of social, family based celebratory events and occasions as well as regular user groups.  The hall rates are reasonable and offer local user discounts and can be hired by all for a modest fee + deposit for private hires. Please book as far in advance as possible - the venue is immensely popular!

For information on upcoming events and to see when the hall is free, click WHAT'S ON above. To place a booking, click BOOKING.

As we are continually striving to update and improve our unique facility, the hall regularly hosts monthly community based and annual fundraising events organised by the volunteer led social group - everyone is warmly welcome to join in.

Helpers willing to offer time, skills and work as part of a team are equally welcome.  Want to know more then email: bvhmc@outlook.com to make contact

Some Information regarding Blean Village Hall and the reasons why we must increase our hire costs.....

Blean Village Hall is a charity managed by a group of volunteers in our spare time, we meet approximately once per month  and are not a paid team, the only paid staff are our Letting's officer and cleaner/caretaker.  Our letting's officer works a few hours per week and does her best to respond to all enquiries quickly, please bear this in mind when contacting her.  There also may be enquiries she has to forward to the committee for approval - be patient please.

The expenses involved in the running of the village hall, which include wages for our cleaner/caretaker and our letting's officer, insurances, licenses, inspections, electricity, gas, all maintenance and repairs, renewals  of hall equipment, such as heating, plumbing, decoration, electrical and other repairs  (currently the leak in the roof) are paid for from the charges from the letting of the hall, we receive no government funding at all. Our only other income is the donations made from our volunteer group who run regular coffee mornings and other events to subsidise our expenses.

Following the loss of income during covid, the recent huge spiral of gas and electric, coupled with the increasing costs of upkeep to an ageing building our extra expenses amount to over £100 per week!  Therefore, it is essential the hourly hire rate charged  reflects the outgoings of the building
